“If you educate a man you educate an
individual, but if you educate a woman you educate a nation”
Beginning
with just six students, Respected Smt. Mahadevi Bhatnagar along with her
philanthropist husband Shri Jyoti Swaroop Bhatnagar, sowed the seed of girl
education 15 September 1902, by laying the foundation of
Mahadevi Kanya Pathshala, now popularly known as MKP. The seed planted by her
has now grown into a huge Banyan tree. Today M.K.P. (P.G.) College, Dehradun is
one of the most prestigious institutions in Uttarakhand with the motto “Ritay
Gyananam Mukti” meaning Knowledge that provides Enlightenment and Salvation.
The
College is located in the heart of the city and is known for its sound
academics and vibrant extracurricular activities.
Our
mission, at MKP, is to build girl leadership by nurturing self-directed women,
empowered by skills, knowledge and wisdom, instilled with the zeal to serve the
Nation. We firmly believe that it is a woman’s fundamental right to work and
earn as equal partners in society, so that not only the community but the whole
nation flourishes, for there is no greater pillar or stability than a
strong whole nation flourishes, for there
is no greater pillar or stability than a strong, free and educated woman in
society.
Thus
M.K.P. believes in imparting holistic education to girls in addition to formal
education that we impart within the University framework.
